SUMMARY An illdependent evaluation of the Nepal Leprosy Control Programtne WLCP) \\,as undettaken by inember experts from HMGIWHOMGOs from 7-24 January 1996, After discussions with the liatioiala utliorities, tlie four teaiisc onstitilted visited all tlie five regions and twenty districts of the A national plan for leprosy elitninatioih ad been developed considering the favourable impact the delivery of lnultidrug therapy (MDT) drugs had had on registered leprosy patients since 1983. However, the regiois and districts have yet to be involved in the implementation of the national plan, as adapted to their areas. Tlie Leprosy Control Section (LCS) has to provide guidance to districts on tlie adaptation of tlie national plan. The priority accorded to the leprosy progralntne in tlie regions/ districts is not in keeping \vith its time-bound and goal-oriented targets initiatives are therefore urgently required for enhancing the active suppoi? and involvement towards leprosy elirnination efforts in the regions/districts.
